BOTTESINI COMPETITION VIII EDITION

"No other double bass concert performer can be compared to him. Dall’Oglio, Müller and Dragonetti played the double bass to perfection, while preserving the timbre of the instrument. Yet, in the hands of Bottesini, the double bass became a special instrument, something in between the violin and the violoncello. One must have heard him, Bottesini, to get an idea of that ineffable and melancholic musical richness that was able to generate such an intense and penetrating pleasure that nearly approached pain".

So recited the Gazzetta Teatrale Italiana on July 19th 1889, a few days after the death of the Maestro from Crema. An important legacy that the Musical Association Giovanni Bottesini desires to give value to through the planning of the "8th International Contest for Double Bass Giovanni Bottesini” on the occasion of the bicentenary of the composer's birth.

A fantastic event that, in the previous editions, has seen triumphant musicians, who today fulfill lead roles in major orchestras worldwide.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Municipality of Crema and the Foundation San Domenico, the contest has been revived in April of 2017, under the artistic direction of Enrico Fagone and with the participation, in the jury, of the most renowned double bass maestros.
